Reasons to Ditch your Dial-Up Service and Embrace Broadband
Do you still use the internet through dial-up? Have you considered that there are alternatives and all access to the internet isn’t the same? You may think that you shouldn’t have to pay more for internet service, but it’s important to realise why you need to join most of your fellow internet users in the 21st century.
Why ditch your dial-up service? The main reason is your internet speed. Let’s compare broadband speed with dial-up. Using your dial-up service, your PC dials a phone number and connects to the internet. Using this method, your transfer means may reach speeds of up to 53 kilobits per second. However, it is not common to reach those speeds.
Compare that with broadband access. Broadband is defined as “high-speed internet access, a fast connection to the internet that is always on”. There are several means of obtaining high-speed access, such as: Digital Subscriber Line, Cable Modem, Fibre Optic, Wireless and Satellite.
Now, contrast the high-speed internet access speed. There are two considerations: download and upload rates. It is possible to reach download speeds of eight megabits per second, and upload rates of close to 1024 kilobits per second. That data upload speed is 20 times faster than what is possible using dial-up.
So now, does that mean that you have to go out and get the fastest, highest speed possible? Slow down, you don’t have to go from a tricycle to a Porsche!
Now that you know that you want to use broadband, what do you want to use it for? Are you using it for general internet access and maybe email? Will you use it for downloading lots of files, or possibly for streaming videos? It is important to pay for only what you need.
Armed with that knowledge, you can begin shopping for the best deal. You do not have to accept any broadband service, but the one that you feel will provide you the best broadband deals. Examine the service of your local phone company, your cable company, and whatever other competing service there is in that area.
Bring equipped with a better knowledge of what is currently available, you can make it your own.

Lol do people still use dial up then? With up to 50mb download speeds now there really is no need for it.

Yes suprisingly government figures show that somewhere in the region of 6-8% of users still use dialup across the UK. We agree with high speeds from companies like BT or fibre-optic Virgin Broadband there reallt are much better alternatives to old dial-up.

Great post..I was on the lookout for this for many days now. I think Virgin Broadband and Sky broadband are the leading providers here in the UK, I only ever hear good things about them in this country.
